Cambridge Farberware Art Deco Amethyst Glass Beverage Set
Rare set of Cambridge amethyst glass with Farber Brothers (est. 1915) ‘clip on clip off’ non-tarnishing Krome-Kraft holders.
This set is shown in a 1930 jewelers catalog, part no. C3442. The tumblers are Cambridge part no. 3400 / 112. The pitcher holds 3 pints (48 oz) and the tumblers hold 6 oz. This pitcher was designated for ‘claret or punch’. The tumblers shown with the claret set in the ad are said to be ‘cut down’ to 3½” tall. These tumblers are not ‘cut down’ and are like the tumblers shown at the top of the ad page for the beer or water set. The (4) tumblers with this set are 4½” tall and hold 8-9 ounces. Made between in the mid 1920’s to mid 1930’s. The Farberware hallmarks show the number ‘1924 011’ underneath the patent number. We are unable to verify if ‘1924’ is a date.
The pitcher measures 9″ tall. 6″ at widest and holds 48 ounces. The (4) tumblers measure 4½” tall. This is a full size beverage set. In near mint condition. There is a stress crack line on the handle that has not breached the surface. This is usually caused at the factory during the cooling process, but could have developed over the years. The handle is intact and strong, but due to the stress crack this pitcher should always be lifted with one hand on the handle and the other hand’s palm beneath the base to prevent further stress. The chrome holder bases have scratch marks on the bottoms from surface wear over the years (not considered damage). The visible chrome is like-new. Black spots on chrome is from light reflections. Stunning and very scarce.
